Our wines are literally excellent.
In our home region, the Ingelheimer Grund, the beginnings of viticulture date back to the first millennium. As only particularly favoured locations and soils are suitable for viticulture, it was a privilege from the very beginning to cultivate vines and produce wines. Our family dedicated itself to viticulture early on, with the first evidence of this dating back to 1726.
The signature of the new generation
Over the past few years, we have developed a shared vision of how our wines can endure in the 21st century. Our ideas are now quite mature and since the 2019 vintage, we have been consistently realising them, fine-tuning the details and experimenting.
Our vision of the new Wasem style is already clearly recognisable in the current vintages. Even if many things are only in the early stages and nothing can be rushed here. In viticulture, you naturally have to think in somewhat longer time frames than just from one year to the next.
From generation to generation – since 1726.
In the 17th century, the buildings that we manage in Ober-Ingelheim were the seat of the noble family Ritter Hundt von Saulheim and his wife Anna Katharina, née von Rodenstein. The coat of arms of both families, carved in stone with the year 1614, still adorns the Rodensteiner Hof today. The foundation stone for our business in its present modern form was laid in 1912 by Julius Wasem. He set up the winery in the old aristocratic residence in Edelgasse and was the first producer to bottle and market his own wines, setting an example for Ingelheim.
The passion was passed on to the sons, generation after generation. It was not just a question of maintaining and developing an economically healthy business, the commitment always went a little further than pure necessity would have demanded. Always driven by a special feeling for wine.
For us, tradition means always doing things a little better.
Our estate wines are varietal wines that are uncomplicated and simply enjoyable on the nose and palate.
Our estate wines form the basis of the best quality and the entry point into the wine range. A vine is depicted on the label to symbolise the origin of the grapes.
As winegrowers, we value origin and quality. Local wines always come from vineyards full of character and reflect the wine style of the district.
Local wines – the ambassadors of the best soils all come from traditional vineyards in one place and impress with their local style. In addition to the grape variety, they also bear the name of the village on the label to indicate their origin.
Our single-vineyard wines are the pinnacle of our craft. For us, traditional vineyard sites are the influential factor in expressing the grape variety.
In addition to the style of the grape variety, our single-vineyard wines bring the characteristics of the soil on which they were grown into the bottle. They are an expression of our endeavour to create unique wines and characters. Site wines always come from the best-known vineyards over decades and centuries, which are famous for their above-average quality and unmistakable style. These include: Ingelheimer Horn, Ingelheimer Pares, Ingelheimer Sonnenhang and Elsheimer Blume. The Burgundy wines are particularly special to Ingelheim and our winery. All our red wines are preferably matured in wooden barrels.
